Planning Your Vacation Dude Ranch Activities

Adult Only Dude Ranch Adult Only Weeks: The children are back in school (or maybe flown the coop entirely!) and it’s time for the ‘big kids’ to kick up their heels. During our Colorado Dude Ranches’ adult-only weeks you’ll explore magnificent trails, hike and fish until your heart’s content and the sense of peace and quiet will be accentuated due to the lack of wee ones on the ranch. Check out ranches such as Black Mountain Ranch, Sundance Trail Ranch, High Lonesome Ranch, Latigo Ranch, Majestic Dude Ranch, Elk Mountain Ranch, Sylvan Dale Ranch, Vista Verde Ranch, and Drowsy Water Ranch below for more details>>

Work Weeks: Become the rancher during our Colorado Dude Ranch work weeks. This is a true immersion experience which allows you to see what ranchers do to help maintain our forests, keep up the ranch, and tend to animals on a daily basis. However, there’s a nice twist: on top of learning to mend a fence, maintain trails, and of course ride through some of the most beautiful mountains trails known to man, you are welcomed home at the end of the day with top notch western cuisine and a cozy mountain cabin. Both Badger Creek Ranch and Home Ranch offer these weeks. See more below>>

Cattle Weeks: Cattle Drives, Team Penning, Roping, and herd management are all part of our Cattle Weeks at our Colorado Dude Ranches. Each day, you will get hands on experience working with cattle and learning the cowboy traditions of old that are still alive today. Lost Valley Ranch, Latigo Ranch, Home Ranch, Sylvan Dale Ranch, and Zapata Ranch are all offering Cattle Weeks this summer! These weeks go fast, so Get Along Little Dogie and take a peek at these ranches below for available dates>>

Cowgirl Weeks:Sometimes all a lady needs is a little ‘girl time’ with her favorite gal pals and family. These woman’s weeks at our Colorado Dude Ranches offer all the riding, trap shooting, hiking, hearty western cuisine and campfire time you could ask for. Yet you will find plenty of unplugged free time set aside to simply sit back on your porch swing and have that unhurried time to truly catch up with family and friends. Both Sylvan Dale Ranch and Latigo Ranch have Cowgirl Weeks lined up for summer 2018. This could be the answer to the girls trip you’ve been meaning to plan for years>>

Rodeo Weeks: Shine up your boots, grab your hats, and make sure to book a week at one of our Colorado Dude Ranches’ Rodeo Weeks if you want to experience some of the best professional rodeos the west has to offer. Both Rawah Ranch and Sylvan Dale Ranch incorporate a trip to local rodeos into their week-long dude ranching stays. They drive you to and from the rodeo and give you all the insider info on each event! If a professional rodeo visit has been on your bucket list, and you want to make the most of it by truly living the cowboy lifestyle for a week, our Colorado Dude Ranch Rodeo Weeks are for you. More details below>>

We also offer other great adventurous activities like rock climbing, trap shooting, and fly-fishing. In addition, the teen counselors know just when to add an outdoor sports game, throw in another horse clinic, have a teen only hot tub party, card games, climb Flag Mountain or just go to the arena with water balloons. Many ranches say that they have things to do for teens, but Tumbling River ensures that your teenagers will feel genuinely included and will more than just enjoy the activities we have for their group–the teen group is traditionally the one most likely to encourage the parents into a return stay.06/16-06/23/19

Unique in its location 60 miles southwest of Denver in the heart of Pike National Forest and the Mt. Evans Wilderness area. The remote high mountains that surround the ranch offer beautiful scenery and interesting history. One of the most unique features of the ranch is the Pueblo House. The Pueblo House is truly a showplace that reflects a charm that can no longer be duplicated. It was built by the daughter of Adolph Coors as her mountain home in the early 1930’s. The talents of the Indians from Taos were utilized in the construction and the carving of decorative beams. The Spanish-Indian decor is extraordinary. The house has seven guest bedrooms, each with a fireplace and beautiful view. The Pueblo House allows us to host family reunions from 15-22 guests all under one roof. It is the best of both worlds, the ultimate dude ranch vacation for multigenerational families paired with an extraordinary house. Enjoy the highest level of service, hospitality and comfort.06/30-07/20/19
Tumbling River RanchTumbling River Kids Riding WeekCall to Book: 800-654-8770 Tumbling River is well-known as the premier kids ranch in Colorado, for good reason: our counselors gravitate toward the children’s interests and relish the opportunity to introduce them to the Western lifestyle, starting with our awesome horseback riding. During two weeks in July, our 6-11 age group will focus more heavily on horsemanship and riding. We will give the kids a chance to saddle, brush, and even lead trails rides. This is a rare opportunity for these kids to take a deeper dive into riding and caring for horses. These weeks should not be missed if you have a kid horse lover in the family.07/14-07/27/19

Dive into the literature of nature and animals, and discuss when and how young people develop a sympathy for and a connection to the natural world. Talk about great books of our childhoods – Charlotte’s Web, Black Beauty and more – and consider the non-fiction work, Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Syndrome, and other works about learning from the natural world through exploration, imagination, and immersion. Enjoy horseback rides each morning and discussions around the table each afternoon. Participants will also have opportunities to ride through our 2,000 wild bison, through the Great Sand Dunes National Park and with the cattle herd.06/16/19-06/23/19
